CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE: LUXEMBOURG EDITION
December is closing in, and the sun is nearly gone. One final trip is offered by our University, VU: Visiting Christmas markets in caves in Luxembourg? I had no idea there was a country named Luxembourg, so I am super intrigued. My program group decides on one final trip altogether, so get signed up for our bus ride to Luxembourg.
Some background, Luxembourg dates back to the Holy Roman Empire. Luxembourg is the second-richest nation on Earth, having its residents earn twice as much as Americans and having one of the lowest GDP debt ratios. Some fun facts are that it is home to the restaurant with the largest wine list in the world, one of the cheapest places to drive, and in the EU, has the highest minimum wage of 2,313 per month.
We felt like we were in a movie, a fantasy land that didn't feel like people actually lived there. The public transportation there is free, so we spend so much time exploring. Going on hikes, and walking around trying fancy wine and cheese we enjoyed our first day.
The hotels we stayed in were easily the fanciest places I had ever stayed, and we got a great view of the Christmas markets from our windows.
While at the Christmas markets, I decided to buy gifts for my family and friends. There were so many things to choose from, and for the first time while being in Amsterdam, I felt the Christmas cheer! Everywhere we looked, we saw another castle or bridge that made me feel like I was in Hogwarts or something. There was something very whimsical about the place, and I really enjoyed it!
The next day we got back on the buses and headed towards the caves. I didn't know what to expect when they said there were Christmas markets in a cave, but they were not exaggerating one bit. There was one of the longest Christmas markets I have ever seen in this cave, and we were mesmerized.
It was an incredible trip and one that educated me a lot more on European countries. Showing me how important it is to expand the mind, and explore the world! It was a great trip to end my abroad experience. Thank you for reading and I will see you in my next blog!
